In this workshop, Sasei offers a fascinating introduction to Irezumi, the traditional Japanese art of tattooing. Participants will learn about its history, typical motifs such as dragons, koi, tigers and peonies, and their symbolic meanings.

Alongside design, line work and the composition of large-scale motifs, practical work is also central to the session. Under expert guidance, participants can try out initial techniques on suitable practice material and develop a feel for tattooing.

No previous experience is required. Curiosity, a steady hand and an interest in Japanese art and visual language are all that is needed.
